American Recovery and Reinvestment Act 2009
Overview of the ARRA (Recovery Act)
On February 17, 2009, President Barack Obama signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), providing $787 billion in federal stimulus funds to create new jobs and save existing ones, to spur economic activity and invest in long-term economic growth and to foster unprecedented levels of accountability and transparency in government spending. The measures covered by the funds include initiatives to modernize infrastructure, enhance energy independence, expand educational opportunities, preserve and improve affordable health care, provide tax relief, and protect those greatest in need.
Over the past several months, the City of Dallas has worked hard to ensure that the City and region receive funds to improve transportation infrastructure, initiate weatherization programs in targeted areas, offer assistance to prevent homelessness, and to preserve and create jobs.
A large portion of the funds the City of Dallas is eligible to receive came to the city directly in the form of formula block grants, including Community Development Block Grants (CDBG), Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grants (EECBG), and Byrne Justice Assistance Grants (JAG). There are also additional funding opportunities that may benefit the City that come through federal and state competitive proposal processes.
The City has also benefited from infrastructure funds for transit and highway projects that will be sent to the state of Texas or to regional organizations such as the North Central Texas Council of Governments.
This website will allow Dallas citizens and others the opportunity to follow stimulus funds and track City projects. The website will be updated regularly to include the most current information related to the City’s ARRA-funded initiatives.
