Dallas, Texas, with a population of 1.2 million is the ninth largest city in the U.S. and forms the heart of the large metropolitan area in north central Texas, commonly referred to as the “metroplex.”  The metroplex, a 12-county area encompassing more than 120 cities, is anchored by the City of Dallas in the east and the City of Fort Worth in the west.  The Dallas community of today is world-class with a diverse population located on a total land area of 384 square miles.

Dallas is also the home of six professional sports teams including the Mavericks (basketball), Stars (hockey), Rangers (baseball), Cowboys (football), FC Dallas (soccer), and the Desperados (arena football).  In addition, the metroplex is also home for the Texas Motor Speedway that each year hosts NASCAR NEXTEL Cup, Busch Series, and Craftsman Truck Series and the Indy Racing League.  The metroplex has also been selected as the NFL preferred location for the 2011 Super Bowl Championship game.

In addition to being a sports fan’s dream, Dallas’ Arts District and Cultural Centers make it an ideal place for the artistically and culturally inclined.  Encompassed in the Arts District are the renowned Dallas Museum of Art, Nasher Sculpture Center and the Crow Collection of Asian Art that are certain to please even the toughest art critic.  If it’s music you love, then look no further than the Meyerson Symphony Center, home of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra.

Finally, Dallas is home to over 10 entertainment districts that prove that life in Dallas doesn’t stop when the sun goes down.  From the sophisticated shopping of Knox-Henderson and Northpark to the dining and dancing at the West End and Greenville Avenue, Dallas has something for everyone.  And every fall Dallas’ Fair Park hosts the annual Texas State Fair attracting visitors from across the country to partake in the festivities.
