We respond to concerns about chemicals, sediment, and other harmful substances entering the storm drain system that includes creeks, streams, ponds, lakes, and the Trinity River.  We will investigate abandoned substances that may leak into surface water bodies.

Team Mission
To assess the water quality in the City's creeks, lakes, and the Trinity River through three sampling and monitoring programs:

Wet Weather Sampling
Collect samples of rainfall run-off during the ‘first flush' of a rain event.  The ‘first flush' is defined as the time period in which 0.1 inch of rain falls within a specified period of time.  This sample represents the type of pollutants on the surface of the ground that will discharge into the MS4 as it rains.
The City evaluates seven to eight
watersheds each year. This past year, the following watersheds were evaluated: Upper White Rock, Lower White Rock, Dallas Warren Newton Creek, Upper Five Mile, Elam Basin, Coombs Creek, Lower Five Mile.

Dry Weather Sampling
Inspect the outfall locations across the City for illegal and improper discharges on non-storm water materials through visual observation and collection of samples. Track discharges back to the sources and obtain compliance with the City's Storm Water Ordinance.  Verify location and piping attributes.

Bioassesment Monitoring
Complete modified EPA bioassesment sampling to categorize water quality using biological, chemical, and physical characteristics of 29 selected creeks in Dallas.  Complete comparative evaluation of biota each year and convey each location to populations from previous years.
