Citizen's Fire Academy Now Taking Applications!
Mission Objective Overview The program is for individuals 18 years or older who are interested in learning more about how Dallas Fire-Rescue is organized and how we conduct operations. The department’s multifaceted operations will be explored during the 8 week fire academy. Each night on Thursdays, participants will meet at the fire academy and learn about various subjects such as Dallas Fire-Rescue’s hiring and training process, apparatus familiarization, hazardous materials team, USAR (Urban Search and Rescue), fire tactics and strategies, along with other engaging topics. Participants will also receive valuable life safety CPR certification training. The fire inspection division will give an overview of their operations and provide information on volunteer opportunities. The last week of the 8 week program will be comprised of a full day on Saturday of hands-on training and demonstrations such as vehicle extrication and rappelling. At the conclusion of the full day of hands on training, graduates will participate in a formal graduation ceremony at the training center. Application enrollment period is from February 28th to March 14th with the initial class beginning on April 7, 2011. Criminal background checks will be conducted on all applicants for the CFA.
