- Began operations on July 6, 2005 as a 6 month test project.
- Objective was to leverage resources from each patrol division to gain
citywide impact.
- Unit’s mission is to rapidly deploy resources to different areas of the
city to “disrupt” the comfort level of criminal
- offenders.

- Approximately 60 officers and supervisors.
- Span of control limited to no more than 8 officers per sergeant.
- Operates from Tuesday through Saturday 10:00 am until 4:00am.

- Target areas are selected for the upcoming week on Monday during the
COMPSTAT meeting.
- Based on several criteria such as:
- - Emerging Crime Trends
- - Violent Gun Crimes
- - Drug Complaints
- - Chronic High Offense Locations
- Main Focus is areas with HIGH VIOLENT CRIME

- Safety Checks in the target areas.
- Warrant lists for the target areas.
- Known offenders in the target areas.
- Rapid deployment from location to location.

- Analysis of crime data for the last six years shows six areas of high
crime concentration.
- Reviewed all crime and filtered the data to exclude family violence,
sexual assaults and shoplifting.
- Each location was a crime hotspot for every month in 2005.

- Impact Areas contributed 26.42% of crime in 2005.
- Impact Areas are approximately 1/16th of the land and 20% of
population.
- Impact Areas will be the primary areas of
- engagement for Operation Disruption, S.W.A.T. Units,
- Fugitive Unit, K-9 Unit, Mounted Unit and Narcotics Division.
