Projects The Studio’s initial focus is the portion of West Dallas near the foot of the new Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge. The intent is to manage expected changes in the area to the benefit of the existing community, while realizing the development potential of underutilized land in this key location. The Studio is also working with the community on ‘micro-designs’ to identify and plan for small design projects in the neighborhood. One of the first initiatives that the Studio is undertaking is the foot of what will become the new Continental Pedestrian bridge. The Studio is collaborating with residents, stakeholders and public entities to develop schematic designs for this new gateway to West Dallas. In August 2009, prior to the creation of the CityDesign Studio, a Dreaming Session was held to create a vision for West Dallas. In February 2010, the CityDesign hosted a two-day Charrette (an intense planning session) aimed at advancing the ideas generated at the Dreaming Session. The CityDesign Studio facilitated two design workshops focused on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. As its first major initiative, the CityDesign Studio engaged in a community-based planning effort in the West Dallas bounded by the Trinity River levee at the North and East, I-30 at the South and Sylvan at the West. Through the ideas and input for over 40 meetings, the Urban Structure and Guidelines was crafted.
