Communication and Information Services The mission of the 9-1-1 System is to provide the Citizens of Dallas access to emergency services any time of the day no matter what type of communication device they use when dialing the digits 9-1-1. In 1985, the City of Dallas held a voter referendum that was overwhelming approved to provide 9-1-1 service to the Citizens of Dallas. After building an extensive network, the City began Enhanced 9-1-1 Service in 1988 with 61 telephone consoles and at the time only Wireline phones were able to dial 9-1-1. Now almost 20 years later, the 9-1-1 system has grown to 94 Computer/Telephone Integrated workstations receiving Enhanced 9-1-1 calls from Wireline, Wireless, and VoIP with the capability of mapping the 9-1-1 calls. The 9-1-1 System is under the care of the Communication and Information Services Department headed by Worris Levine and is listed in the Budget as 9-1-1 Technology/Public Education. Contact: |
