The 2010 Census is a unique opportunity for all communities, regardless of their background, to come together for a common goal. That goal is to provide an accurate snapshot that reflects our community make-up and the resources we so desperately need. As the National Census Advisory Committee Vice-Chair, it is my charge to provide advice on the design and implementation of the 2010 Census especially where diverse populations are concerned.
Many worry about participating in the census because of confidential concerns, but keeping personal information safe and confidential is the Census Bureau’s highest priority. It is illegal for any personal information to be shared with anyone including government agencies or law enforcement and the Census Bureau takes extraordinary measures to ensure confidentiality.
Help us make sure that every person in our diverse population is included in the 2010 census; tell your neighbors and your co-workers that Census Day is April 1, 2010 and the funding we stand to received can be used for public transportation, road construction, health and human service programs, community development, and much more. If we all help to spread the word, the benefits for the city of Dallas and the entire region will be well worth the effort.
